Frequently Asked Questions

I am interested in enrolling my child on a research study or the expanded access protocol. How do I go about starting this process?

Email us at cordbloodtherapyinfo@dm.duke.edu and one of our team members will reach out regarding next steps to determine if your child is eligible for a study. We will ask you to provide your child’s name, date of birth, diagnosis, brief medical history, and if cord blood is banked. If you have your child’s own or their sibling’s umbilical cord blood saved, please contact your cord blood bank and send us the cord blood report.

I live outside of the USA. Am I able to participate?

Yes. We treat patients from all over the world.

What is the age range for children to participate in the research studies?

Each trial has a different age range. For our expanded access protocol we are able to treat children under 26 years of age whose sibling or own unit is eligible.

I am older than 26 but interested in treatment for a brain injury. Where should I go for treatment?

We cannot recommend another facility. Please go to clinicaltrials.gov for a list of clinical trials. You can search their website to see if there is a clinical trial you may qualify for.

How much does treatment cost?

For most of our clinical trials, the cost is covered by the trial. However, the expanded access protocol is not covered under a trial. The cost of the expanded access treatment is $15,000 prior to scheduling the first visit.

What is the current wait list for clinical trials or the expanded access treatment?

Our wait list varies depending on the clinical trial. We currently have a long wait list for expanded access treatment. Please be patient as we work through our queue. We will respond as soon as we can.
